Future

it doesn’t come easily

I’m so funny sometimes.

As a writer, I perpetually see my life as a story. Sometimes it helps me to get through things better. Sometimes it leads to me being way too fanciful and looking for the happy ending at the end of the saga.

The thing is, there may be a happy ending, but it’s not my ending yet. It’s barely the beginning (I hope). There’s still plot twists to come, minor and major victories, setbacks and moments of near loss of hope.

When I realized what I felt God’s purpose for my life was, part of me thought “Here it is at last! The happy ending! Now people are going to ask me to speak at events, I’m going to start selling stuff and get immediate results, it’s all going to be seamless.”

Maybe I did sit back a bit too much. Maybe I expected things to work out and grew a bit lazy.

So, if you feel like you’ve found God’s purpose and it’s time to sit back, let me caution you: it’s time to work harder than ever!

This is when I should’ve thrown my all into my calling. You ask people for opportunities to grow your skills, share what God has done, seek after positions that will get you to that calling, all while trusting God to keep the story going.

It’s a very fragile balance.

Do you ever get to parts of your life where you’re like, okay, I’ve been through a lot: here’s the part where I can just ride the roller coaster down the hill.

Those are the times when you have to stay on guard against laziness & lack of a sense of purpose.

I don’t think there’s truly any moment we can just ride the wave, ya know? It’s kind of exhausting, but there’s always another hill to prepare for, another person to let onto the coaster, another setback to overcome.

All the good things in life are worth fighting for. God doesn’t call us to live passively. I mean, come on: how fun would that be, anyway?

Let’s go hard. Let’s go full throttle. It’s not gonna be easy to continue in God’s purpose for our lives, but that’s what makes us come out as gold.

Are you ready to fight? Have you had to overcome any valleys lately? Are there ever any “smooth sailing” moments in your life?
